beefing

Basically whatever happens to irritate me. Probably quite trivial but then why not? After all, the First Admendment says I can (but then the new Supreme Court may change that...)

note to Dodge City Globe regarding 2022 Dodge City Celebration

Dear Mr. Marshall,

I am curious what people ate and drank in 1872. I am also convinced that folks in 2072 and 2122 will wonder what we ate and drank. Some folks in 2072 will think they know but they really will not. Fifty years ago, I was serving on the USS FORRESTAL. I have no real idea what we were actually ate then. I didn’t keep any list of the various menus because I just knew I would remember…

The people in 2122 will be surprised when they read about what we actually ate in 2022!

If people were to make honest food diaries regarding what they actually ate and drank then they will have contributed primary source material. These food diaries simply need to be honest and candid. People could send in anonymous reports if they “are cheating. (That is eating or drinking what the family does not know they are consuming. We know this will happen.)

You could find safe places to stash these food diaries. File cabinets in the County Court House or various banks come to mind.

You could have various food outlets give you menus and brag about their sales.

This would be a nice addition to the celebration this year. Digital submissions might be saved on 3½” floppies, CDs or DVDs and thumb drives. I don‘t know if any of this technology will survive till either 2072 or 2122. Maybe putting digital entries into “the cloud” would suffice.

Printed diaries could be stored in safes or in a strongly build time capsule.

People could submit their favourite recipes.

People could submit (anonymously) their list of medications. These lists could raise eyebrows in 50 years and could horrify folks a century! I like that idea! Such submissions need be anonymous and be kept in continentality or they probably will not be sent in. (In 50 years I will be dead and certainly will not care who reads my submission!)

Sincerely,
