beefing

Basically whatever happens to irritate me. Probably quite trivial but then why not? After all, the First Admendment says I can (but then the new Supreme Court may change that...)

more from the New Orleans' mayor...

From http://www.doonesbury.com/strip/dailydose/index.html on 19 January 2006, the

Doonsbury quote of the day:

"This city will be chocolate at the end of the day. This city will be a majority African-American city. It's the way God wants it to be."

-- New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin, January 16

"How do you make chocolate? You take dark chocolate, you mix it with white milk, and it becomes a delicious drink. That is the chocolate I am talking about."

--Nagin, January 17

Now, there is a Master Politician. That man could have great job as a spin meister in Washington AC/DC! This is what I call male bovine feces.(Ain't I the subtle one???)

Oh, yeah, a white mayor talking about making his/her city "vanilla" would faces demands she/he resign, mass protests (maybe even riots), the threat of Federal investigation and the ruin of their political life.

a nice diatribe about Civil Liberties loss...

Some nice writing about how we're losing our Civil Liberties.

On the various meanings of Martin Luthur King, Jr. day

I was typing in the title when the Publish Post occurred; this was strange.

The meaning of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., varies from person to person I believe.

Dr. King lead a peaceful revolt against centuries of entrenced racism and hatred. He placed his life, the lives of his family and comrades and church membership on the line. He went up against white trash in the south and in the north; he went up against the Federal Government (i.e. FBI). The man had balls!

How people felt about him was quite varigated.

I have a co-worker who apparently admires Dr. King's courage but blathers on about King having plagerized his PhD thesis; I have another co-worker (a friend at that) who strongly defends Dr. King and denounces this plagerism charge.

I went to high school and a year of junior college in southern Mississippi in the late 1960s. (My year of junior college ended in enlisting in the Navy to avoid coming home in a body bag from 'Nam...) In Mississippi, Dr. King was called "Martin Luther Koon" or "Martin Luther Coon". He was called a "Communist" and accused of being an adulter and I don't recall ever seeing any plausible proof...

He was also called names that I refuse to repeat. Regardless, a number of those who hated him recognized his courage and I heard "he may be a ********* but he's got balls!"

This morning, I read a blog from someone who claimed to be an employee of Daimler-Chrysler who stated that he

*got MLK day off because it is a Fed holiday but
*didn't get paid because Daimler-Chrysler didn't recognize the day

Sounds like a way to avoid paying the worker bees. Isn't that also called casuistry?

My wife employer doesn't recognize MLK, Jr. day as a paid day off so she simply went to work as she does on any Moanday.

My employer pays "holiday pay" to those working on a Federal Holiday and that extra cash will come in handy!

If I were a drinking man, I'd hoist a beer to Dr. Martin Luther King, Junior!

another Federal Cluster F**k!

CNN has been reporting on the problems casused by the "new and improved, easier to use Medicare plans". From the number of problems old folks have reported and the number of problems pharmacists have reported, I can only conclude this has turned into an unmitigated disaster - a classic "cluster fuck" (to use that venerable old Navy term!)

Basically, the "Feds" didn't properly "beta test" these programmes and this is more than a shame; it is gross imcompetience! I'm not looking forward to hearing from my Mother or my Father-in-Law or any number of older Lions about how these programmes are affecting them...

President Bush on local authorities...

Last Thursday, George Walker Bush was talking to some audience (I wasn't paying attention to the context) and I heard him say
"The local folks know better than the folks in Washington DC."

That brings to mind the Federal opposition to states which have approved medicinal marajuana. If Mr. Bush really means this, he should have his goverment back off from interfering in internal California politics. (DISCLAIMER TIME: I have never used illegial drugs and don't smoke. Thus, I have nothing personal to gain from state permitted/administered medicinal marajuana. I might in a decade or two though...)

"caught them maggots"

Two young "men" were taped beating a homeless man. This morning, CNN reported that two 17 year "boys" had been arrested for this beating. So far, if they have offered up lame ass excuses, said excuses have not been reported.

I can't think of any good reason for two young assholes to beat a sleeping man. They are violent thugs and the legal system is made for dealing with them. (Yes, I know I'm being judmental but after seeing one thug beating a human with a big stick, it is rather hard not to...)

running from Jack Abramoff...

On Fox News this morning, a Republician Member of the
House said something like "it's time to move on" and
"let's not play the blame game". He also said "everyone
has done it".

He was talking about Members taking bribes -er- campaign
donations from Jack Abramoff. If the majority of
Abramoff's money had gone to Democrats, you can bet this
Member would not have been so willing to "move on" and
*would* have played the "blame game". But he didn't and
this leads me to believe that Republicans were the major
receipients. It will be very interesting to see what
happens...

Will Bush the Younger issue pardons?

Later, Fox News said something about 20 Congress-critters
and their staphs being in trouble [or words to that
effect].

Pat Robertson suggested that that God caused Ariel
Sharon's stroke for giving away "His land". Aren't all the
heavens and earth His land? For your reading "pleasure":

Sometimes, the proponents of Christianity make me slightly
embarrassed to be a Christian. To bad you don't hear
Muslims making similar remarks about those who embarrass
Islam.

"Book of Daniel..." wish I could have seen it!

The Wichita Kansas station (KSN) that was to have shown
the network show "Book of Daniel" was pressured by
religious "leaders" and said "leader's" congregations. I
wrote an angry note to KSN and am still waiting for a
reply...

----------------------------------------------------------------------

You have decided to cancel "The Book of Daniel". What is
this series about?

1. Isn't this a network show and something you are
contractually obligated to show?

2. If a number of people whining about presenting this
show has compelled you to not show it, why don't you
reschedule it after 10 pm?

3. Your Anita spoke of "members of the public" [or words
to that effect] and "members of the clergy" [or words to
that effect] telling you this show was not in the best
public interest.

4. How would they know given this "Book of Daniel" has
not been shown?

5. What are you going to show in lieu of "The Book of
Daniel"?

6. Not showing this "Book of Daniel" means that the
network ads won't be shown. How do you intend to "make
good" these ads?

7. I'm not sure that my wife or I would have watched but
we should have been given the opportunity. If you don't
think this show is suitable for "family hour", then why
not reschedule it for later in the evening?

8. This show is "TV-14". Why not put banners up saying
"this may not be suitable for the entire family"? Why
not tell those protesters how to use the channel
selection button or on/off switch?

9. "Last Call With Carson Daly" and a repeat of "Jay
Leno" are both "TV-14". Why not replace either with "The
Book of Daniel". I can hear your outraged sputtering of
"we can't replace a schedule TV show with something else.
It would be wroooonnnng!" Well, canceling a network TV
show and not rescheduling it for late at night is also
very wroooonnngg!"

You basically caved under the pressure of some pressure
groups and that is NOT IN THE PUBLIC INTEREST!

wasting houses in New Orleans...

A CNN news item showed black home owners in New Orleans
confronting a big white constucto. These white
(de)structos where bull dozing down wrecked houses. They
apparently did not have legal authority to do so.

I wonder if unauthorized house destruction would be paid
for by insurance?

Would the city of N.O. send the bill for house destruction
to the owners?

How would be allowed to buy the soon to be vacant lots?

The CNN folks were talking of the owners being "poor
folks" and I've got to wonder if they even owned the
houses? If they did, what collateral or equity would they
have?

It seems like these poor folks have been shafted again...

Consider this: the Federal response to Hurrican Katrina
was so piss poor that Fidel Castro felt the need to send
ships with aid...
